Info | Mark was born in Charleston, West Virginia in 1951. His father, Eugene Okey, was the acting Provost Marshall for the State of West Virginia at the time. His family soon returned to the Canton, Ohio area where Mark grew up. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1969. He attended Kent State University’s Stark Campus for two years before transferring to the main campus. He graduated from Kent State University in 1973 with a BA Degree and a Major in History. Mark then went to law school at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. He received his JD Degree in 1976 and was licensed to practice law in Ohio on November 19, 1976.
Mark married Kathleen Ruth McMahon of Massillon in 1975. They have three children Krista, Laura and Mark. Krista and her husband Brandon live near Cincinnati, Ohio and they just presented Mark and Kathy with their first grandchild, Nathan, born April 21, 2006. Laura and her husband James live and work in Chicago, Illinois. Mark is now a senior at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Mark and Kathy have been married for over thirty (30) years. They raised their children in the North Canton area and after their youngest child graduated from high school they moved to the family farm in Carrollton, Ohio.
Mark has managed the family farm operation for many years. The farm produces soybeans and corn. Mark has always had a keen interest in farming.
Mark joined his father in the practice of law in 1976. Later they formed The Okey Law Firm, LPA. Their family law practice quickly earned a local, state and national reputation for excellence. During his nearly thirty (30) year legal career Mark has successfully handled hundreds of cases in Carroll, Mahoning, Stark and Tuscarawas counties. Mark has gained the respect of his peers who honored him with an AV rating through the Martindale-Hubbell system. This rating represents an attorney who demonstrates excellence in legal ability and who processes the highest level of integrity and honesty.
Mark’s Revolutionary War grandfather, Levin Okey, moved his family to Ohio in 1800. They settled in what is now Monroe County. The Okey’s established a tradition of public service that has transcended generations. The family tree boasts of judges, justices of the peace, county recorder, county auditor, clerk of courts, school examiner, a Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court and two members of the Ohio House of Representatives. Mark is rightfully proud of his family’s commitment to Ohio and public service. Mark wants to continue his family’s legacy by becoming the next State Representative from the 61st Ohio House District.
Mark is an avid outdoorsman who loves to hunt and fish. He supports the rights of gun owners and will protect our natural resources and wildlife.
