Info | Bart has spent his entire life in Central and Southern Illinois. Bart, the youngest of four children, is the son of a farmer/oilfield worker and was raised on his family’s farm in rural Beecher City, near the Fayette and Effingham county line. Bart is a graduate of St. Elmo High School where Bart was active in student government organizations and graduated Salutatorian of his class. During his youth Bart was active in 4-H and FFA. Bart is a graduate of Lake Land College (Honors Program), Eastern Illinois University (Cum Laude) and a 1989 graduate of Southern Illinois University School of Law. Bart has resided in Mt. Vernon since March of 1990.
Bart has been a prosecutor for the past 16 years. The first seven of which he assisted State’s Attorneys throughout the southern one third of the state with drug prosecutions and seizures. For the past 9 years Bart has been an Assistant State’s Attorney in Jefferson County, where his primary responsibility is prosecuting drug cases. Bart has spent his entire legal career as a public servant battling the drug epidemic. During this time Bart has witnessed firsthand the affects of the growing methamphetamine epidemic in this state. Regrettably, he believes so much more needs to be done to combat this awful drug.
Bart has been married to his wife Lisa for 12 years and has three children Hannah, Rachel, and Carson, ages 9, 7, and 3. Bart knows first hand the day to day struggles facing working couples trying to raise children in an ever changing world.
Bart decided to run for State Senate in the 54th District because he believes that together we can do better. Bart believes that our children’s education should be a priority for this state and that economic development is a must for any future planning for the 13 counties in the District. Bart believes that affordable healthcare should be made available to all of our senior citizens who have worked their whole life so that we could enjoy a better future and for the working families of this State. Bart believes it is time that this state returns to the values that we were raised with and in the State Senate Bart intends to do just that.
