Dwayne had a 33 year career teaching instrumental music in Oconomowoc in a serious music program of rare excellence. Having graduated from Luther college in 1965 - another music program of rare excellence, he came to Oconomowoc and worked hard as the elementary foundation instructor along side some of the finest instrumental music teachers in the country. Oconomowoc groups performed with the best in the world. In addition to the strenuous assignment, Dwayne found time to get a masters degree at UWM and 43 graduate credits at Vandercook in Chicago. He started a statewide directors' group in 1982 which has done great service to the profession for almost a quarter century (Dwayne served as executive secretary and treasurer from 1982 to 1987). In the 70's, Dwayne served temporarily as elementary music coordinator during a transition period after which the school district saw fit to develop one of the finest general music programs n the country. In 1990, Dwayne was awarded a career related achievement award from Luther College.
Dwayne has been intensely involved in the study of American, European and World history for the last 20 years. He has read and studied almost half of his 4000 volume history library. He has added politics to this history background, having helped Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004. Dwayne has been active with the Waukesha Democratic Party serving on the membership committee and helping other state and local candidates.
Dwayne is married to his lovely wife, Joyce - an outstanding teacher and church music director in her own right. Daughter Gretchen and son-in-law Frank live near London, England, where Frank is managing director at Credit Swiss. They have 3 children - Chas, Grace and Clay. They were recently invited to Tony Blair's residence at Number 10 Downing street for tea. Son Paul is a Lutheran Pastor in the South Bronx, New York and daughter-in-law Theodora is an Episcopal Priest 2 blocks away from Paul's Lutheran church. They have one son - Miles-Erik.
Dwayne and Joyce are member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
