Info | Like many Arizonans, I was born and corn fed in the Midwest, specifically Omaha. I came to Southern Arizona following the completion of an enlistment tour in the Marine Corps in my early 20's. After settling in to the community, I worked my way through the University of Arizona, with the help of the G.I. Bill, where I received two degrees, a Bachelor of Science with a minor in Business Administration, and a Master of Science in Economic Geology.
Following graduation, I worked for a number of years as a field geologist, exploring the mountain ranges of Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington. Living and working in the mountains gave me the opportunity to gain a real appreciation for the beauty of the American West and its wildlife, including some old-time prospectors living in tiny cabins and tin shanties back in the deep recesses of the canyons. There are still a few of them out there, but they are a dying breed; fascinating and hospitable characters, all.
Family responsibilities eventually required a change of career and a move down from the mountains and back to civilization. I returned to my long-term interest and fascination with business management and consulting, where I've enjoyed the opportunity of working with a number of large and small local firms, developing management systems for businesses, which had prospered and outgrown their organizational capabilities. I have extensive hands-on management experience in many types of manufacturing businesses, in addition to years of experience in commercial construction management.
I am also the owner of Quick Custom Metals, a company in Tucson, specializing in the fabrication of architectural metal products.
I live in a modest house, in a comfortable older neighborhood near the Rillito River in Tucson, along with several dogs and some laying hens.
I have a daughter, Anna, and two granddaughters, ages 7 and 9. Anna gave me permission to mention her name in this resume, if I agreed to say she was adopted.
Like most of you, I've been self-supporting from an early age. I've had many jobs and several careers. I have enjoyed them all. Along the way, I've been fortunate to work with some outstanding men and women, with incredible leadership skills, in a wide variety of endeavors. I've seen first hand, time and again, the amazing things people of good will can accomplish working together.
