| Info | Norman A. Mitchell, Sr., a Democrat, is serving his fourth term on the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners.
Mitchell is retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and is an U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam where he was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart.
He was born in Charlotte at Good Samaritan Hospital, which was located at the site where Ericsson Stadium now stands. Mitchell graduated from York Road High School and attended Johnson C. Smith University. He is a graduate of the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership.

Mitchell is chairman of the Board's Community Health & Safety Committee. He serves as Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC). He also serves on the Homeland Security Task Force and Human Services Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties (NACo). He is a Trustee of the Local Government Retirement System based in Raleigh. He serves on a number of boards including Mecklenburg Ministries and the Carolinas Citizens Freedom Foundation. He is a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Mitchell and his wife Delmarcia have two college-aged children, Alexis and Norman II.
