| Info | Wilhelmenia Rembert is a Democrat elected at-large, serving her first term on the Board. She is vice Chairman of the Board plus chair of the Board's Education Liaison Committee, and member of the Effective and Efficient Government, and Youth and Families Committees.
She was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education in January 1998, and was elected to a four-year term in November 1999.
She is an associate vice president for academic affairs and professor of social work at Winthrop University where she has served for 25 years.
She completed her BA degree in sociology at Winthrop College in 1972; MSW degree at the University of South Carolina in 1976; and Ph.D. in child development at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1989. She also completed the Management Development Program at Harvard University in 1989 and was recognized as the 500th fellow of the NC Institute for Political Leadership (now housed at North Carolina State University) in spring 1999.
Dr. Rembert serves and/or has served in leadership capacities with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Development Corporation, Charlotte Chamber Board of Directors, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Arts and Sciences Council Board of Directors, Mecklenburg County Human Services Council, Mecklenburg County Juvenile Services Board, Mecklenburg Council for Adolescent Pregnancy Board and others.
She lives in Charlotte with her husband, Jimmy, a businessman and former Charlotte-Mecklenburg school teacher and coach. They have two adult daughters: Meredith, who currently serves as a teacher assistant in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Alexis Rembert Small, who is married and living in Woodbury, Minnesota.
