Info | CULVER, Erastus Dean, a Representative from New York; born in Champlain, Washington County, N.Y., on March 15, 1803; was graduated from the University of Vermont at Burlington in 1826; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1831 and commenced practice in Fort Ann, N.Y.; moved to Greenwich, N.Y., in 1836; member of the State assembly 1838-1840; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1845-March 3, 1847); moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1850; judge of the city court of Brooklyn 1854-1861; appointed by President Lincoln as Minister Resident to Venezuela and served in that capacity from 1862 to 1866; died in Greenwich, Washington County, N.Y., October 13, 1889; interment in the Culver vault in Greenwich Cemetery.
