InfoKevin Miskell is a fifth generation Iowa farmer who was born and raised in Story County. He has spent the majority of his life living and working in the Fourth Congressional District, building on the legacy of his ancestors who helped found Boone and Story counties, where they homesteaded their land in the 1850s.

Today he farms in Stanhope, where his wife, three children and granddaughter, the seventh generation to be born in Story County, continue the family tradition. Kevin farms not far from his father and brother who both live on Century Farms. Together they also run the Kermit Miskell Vermeer dealership, one of the largest farmer/dealers in the state.

After graduating from Roland-Story High School and Iowa State University with a degree in animal science, Kevin spent three years in Oklahoma managing the sales division of a major health insurance company. His experience gave him a unique perspective on the need to create a national health care solution that balances the need for the public good with private-sector efficiencies.

Kevin returned to Iowa during the farm crisis of the 1980s, when both his father and brother faced serious health conditions, to help run the family farm. During this time he became actively involved in the fight to save family farms across Iowa from the growth of vertical integration and corporate agribusiness.

For the past 21 years, he has been active in grassroots politics across the state, promoting sustainable agriculture and fighting to protect the environment. During these past two decades, Kevin has worked with elected officials on both the state and national level on legislation relating to agriculture, rural economic development and renewable energy.

During the past four years, Kevin served as Vice President of Iowa Farmers Union, a grassroots organization that promotes the viability of small family farms and sustainable agriculture.

Since 2003 Kevin has worked on the staff of three presidential campaigns. In 2003, he worked for Senator Bob Graham. When Graham dropped out of the race, Kevin was hired by Senator John Edwards' campaign to serve as his Midwestern Director of Rural Policy and Outreach and worked again in this capacity in 2008.

Because of Kevin's work experience with national campaigns, Joe Trippi has offered his services to work for Kevin's campaign as a senior strategist. Kevin is deeply honored and is now directing his full attention to running for Congress in Iowa's Fourth Congressional District and Leading Iowa in a New Direction for the 21st Century
