| Info | With 36 years of distinguished police service as his background, Jim Hoskins is ready to work for Halifax Atlantic. This retired Halifax Regional Police Staff Sergeant has a grasp on people and their needs unlike many others. A two-time recipient of the Governor of Canada Exemplary Service Award, Jim wants to put his experience to work for Halifax Atlantic.
Community work was the backbone of Jim’s career and continues to be his passion. Once recognized as a pioneer in community policing for crime prevention and community relations, Jim knows the importance of building the community from the ground up. He is very proud of his Commendation from the Solicitor General of Canada for his crime prevention program “Woodswise” which focused on teaching children how to survive if lost in the woods. The program started in Spryfield schools.
As a former Executive Director of Halifax Police Boys and Girls Club, Jim knows the challenges facing the youth of Halifax Atlantic. His involvement with youth sports, as the co-founder of JL Ilsley High School Football and coach and past president of Halifax Minor Football Association, gives Jim first-hand knowledge of positive involvement.
During his time as a hostage negotiator Jim learned the importance of early intervention and having timely, professional, and long-term treatment for those suffering from different types of mental illness.
Having dedicated his life to public service, Jim is ready to take his commitment to the next level. He believes accountability to the public is the cornerstone of a representative. As MLA, Jim will ensure his constituents are improving their lives and lending a hand to those less fortunate when needed. Jim’s support comes from his wife Denise and his son and daughter.
