Info | Peggy was born and reared in Phenix City, Alabama. She is the widow of SFC Charles S. Martin, US Army, who died while on active duty in April of 1975. Peggy has four adult children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Peggy attended local public schools and is a graduate of Central High School in Phenix City. She holds an Associate of Arts degree in General Education from Chattahoochee Valley Community College, B.S. degree, cum laude, in Social Science (with a double minor in Business Administration and Psychology) earned at Troy State University. She also obtained her Masters Degree in Counseling and Human Development at Troy State University.
Peggy retired as Consumer Services Manager after thirty-three years of loyal service to Tom’s Foods in Columbus, Georgia.
She is presently serving as Russell County Commissioner – District Three. Previous elected public service include Mayor of Phenix City from 1998 – 2001; District One City Councilmember from 1995 – 1998 and City Planning Commission member. Peggy was a ground floor member of the “Phenix Forward” project to rebuild the city and as the result of continued support of Phenix City voters; she was able to see the project through to completion as Mayor.
Peggy is a professing Christian and member of Central Baptist Church, Broad Street, Phenix City; an Active member of Sunday school and past teacher of single adults. Member of both the Worship Choir and The Solid Rockers (senior adult choir); member of Women on Mission and servers on various church committees.
Peggy has further pursued her desire to serve our community as current Board member of the Habitat for Humanity and past President of the Habitat for Humanity – Russell County. She is presently a Board member of United Way and Contact 211. She also serves as a member of the Muskogee Valley Chapter ABWA, Gold Star Wives, Chattahoochee Valley Chapter and the Phenix City Exchange Club. Peggy was formerly Board member of the Russell County Shelter for Battered Women and also served as a facilitator for the women’s group meetings. She is a charter member of the Russell County Republican Club, and was recently elected President of the Republican Women’s Club of East Alabama.
