Info | Representative Greg Canfield is a native of Birmingham. He graduated from Huffman High School in 1978. He went on to attend the University of Alabama until 1981 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1983. While a student at the University of Alabama, Representative Canfield was active in student affairs and served as Executive Assistant to the SGA President and afterwards as President of the Interfraternity Council.
Representative Canfield began his career in sales for a Fortune 500 transportation company and later was promoted to the position of South Central Regional Sales Manager for Emery Worldwide prior to entering the insurance and financial services field in 1991. In January 1993, he founded Canfield Insurance & Financial Services where he currently serves as President and CEO.
He married the former Denise Coward in 1983 and has two children, Rachel and John. Representative Canfield and his wife are active members of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where they both serve in the lay ministries as Extraordinary Ministers of Communion and Canfield also serves as a Lector.
Elected to two terms, beginning in 2000, he served as President of the Vestavia Hills City Council. Canfield served on the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for six years and as President of that organization in 1997. He was also a member of the 1997 inaugural class of Leadership Vestavia Hills and later served on its Board of Directors from 1997 to 2001 and as President for the 1999/2000 term and a member of the Leadership Birmingham Class of 2005.
Canfield is an active supporter of public education, area youth and senior services; having served as a coach for youth baseball, football, soccer and as a former board member of the Alabama Gymnastics Education Foundation at Mountain Brook Gymnastics. In addition, Canfield served as a liaison to the Vestavia Hills Senior Citizens Association.
