Info | Representative Shannon Cooper, a Republican, represents Henry County, and parts of Bates, Cass, Johnson and Pettis counties (District 120) in the Missouri House of Representatives. First elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2004, Rep. Cooper is owner and operator of Walls General Store a sporting goods retailer located in Blairstown, Mo.
Recent legislative accomplishments include the successful sponsoring and passage of House Bill No. 600 (2003), a broad revenue enhancement measure that generates almost $100 million without a tax increase. He also handled Senate Bill No. 675, a bill that swept various state departments’ slush funds to free up money for appropriation for education expenditures. Chairman Cooper also was a key person in the passage of Senate Bill No. 11, another revenue enhancement measure that, among other things, provided for a sales tax holiday for retailers in August of 2004.
Representative Cooper is a member of the Henry County Economic Development Council, the Highway 7 & 13 Coalition, the National Federation of Independent Business, and the National Rifle Association. Chairman Cooper also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of the Christian Church in Clinton.
Recent awards presented to Representative Cooper include the 2004 County Clerk Association’s Legislator of the Year Award, the 2004 Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture Award, the 2003 Missouri Chamber of Commerce Man in the Arena Award, 2003 St. Louis Business Journal Legislative Award, the 2003 Associated Industries of Missouri Voice of Missouri Business Award, the 2003 Missouri Self Storage Owners Distinguished Service Award, and the 2002 Missouri Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture Award.
Born December 22, 1967, Rep. Cooper graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Mo., in 1986 and resides there with his son Chase.
