Info | Minneapolis City Council Member, Ward 7.
Lisa Goodman is a member of the Minneapolis City Council, elected to her first term in 1997 and re-elected November 2001 to another four-year term. She represents the seventh ward which includes the neighborhoods of Kenwood, Lowry Hill, Cedar Isles Dean, Bryn Mawr and all of downtown Minneapolis. She is a native of Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Political Science and Labor Relations in 1988.
Currently, Lisa is the Chairperson of the City Council's Community Development Committee and Minneapolis Community Development Agency. During her tenure, she led the successful effort to merge the City's Planning Department and Development Agency to form the Community Planning and Economic Development Department (CPED). This new structure provides a coordinated process and single department for community and economic development efforts and zoning and planning activities within the City. She also serves on the City Council's Zoning and Planning, Claims, and Intergovernmental Affairs Committees.
Additionally, she is active on the Planning and Implementation Committees for the New Minneapolis Space and Discovery Center Planetarium, the New Downtown Central Library and the City/County Homelessness Task Force. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Midwest Health Center for Woman, Medica Skyway Senior Center, the family Housing Fund and the Great Minneapolis Convention and Visitors Association and has been active on boards and commissions at the state and national level.
Lisa is actively involved in urban planning, historic preservation, arts as economic development and affordable housing issues. Prior to her election to the City Council, Lisa was the executive director of Minnesota NARAL, the state affiliate of the national Abortion Rights Action League. She has been involved in numerous political campaigns and served as Director of Fundraising for Paul Wellstone's successful bid for the US Senate in 1990. In her spare time on weekends she enjoys gardening, hiking, and antique hunting at her farmhouse, in rural Minnesota with her Golden doodle Sadie.
