Frank M. Stams is a 1984 graduate of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio and a 1989 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a BA in History. While at Notre Dame, Frank was a consensus All-American and a member of the 1988 National Championship Team.
Upon graduating, Frank was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams and spent three years there before being traded to the Cleveland Browns. He finished his seven year career in 1995. While playing, Frank was active in local charities such as the Orange County, California Special Olympics and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Summit County.
After his football career, Frank wanted to give back and had a desire to positively impact young athletes. He began coaching at his high school Alma Mater.
Frank currently works at the Evans Insurance Agency in downtown Akron as a Health Insurance Consultant. In addition, Frank is the color voice for the radio broadcast of the University of Akron football team. Frank and his wife Mari(pronounced Mary) of 6 years, have two children, Rhiannon, 5 and Mason, 4 and reside in Cuyahoga Falls.
Consensus All-American in '88 . . . former Irish fullback developed into all-star defensive end on 1988 national championship team . . . started all 11 games at fullback as sophomore in '85, then switched to defense when Lou Holtz became head coach . . . named Lineman of the Year by the Moose Krause Chapter of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame as senior in '88 . . . named MVP of '88 Miami game after forcing two fumbles and recovering another . . . named 1989 Fiesta Bowl defensive MVP for his two sacks and three tackles vs. West Virginia . . . in his career had 47 rushing carries for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns; 14 receptions for 100 yards and a 7.1 average; 65 tackles and eight sacks for minus-63 yards . . . second-round choice of Los Angeles Rams in '89 NFL draft . . . played for three years with Rams before moving on to Cleveland, to the Carolina Panthers and then back to Cleveland.
