| Info | A doctor, business leader and mother of seven, Dr. Andrea McGuire has proven leadership in healthcare and education.
As a physician, Dr. McGuire has been a leader in the fields of breast cancer research, nuclear medicine and public health. With a long record of caring for the public, including her service as a doctor at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Andy will be key as the Blouin-McGuire administration tackles growing problems with health care.
On the education front, Andy has studied brain development and the power of early childhood education. As an expert and known supporter of early childhood education, Andy will be able to advise on the implementation of education reforms.
Andy is active in the United Way of Central Iowa’s Women’s Leadership Connection, the University of Iowa’s College of Public Health Board of Advisors and the Mercy Foundation. In 2005, Andy received the Woman of Influence Award from the Des Moines Business Record.
Andy and her husband Dan have seven children, Kathleen, 19; Hugh, 17; Dan, 16; Shannon, 14; Molly, 12; Megan, 10; and Emily, 9. Andy grew up in Waterloo, married Dan, from rural northwest Iowa, went to school at Creighton and lives in Des Moines.
