Info | THOMSON, Alexander, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Franklin County, Pa., January 12, 1788; apprenticed as a sickle maker; moved to Bedford, Pa.; received a limited schooling; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1816 and commenced practice in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pa.; held several local offices; member of the State house of representatives; elected to the Eighteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John Tod; reelected to the Nineteenth Congress and served from December 6, 1824, to May 1, 1826, when he resigned; mayor of Lancaster, Pa.; president judge of the sixteenth judicial district of Pennsylvania 1827-1841; professor in the law school of Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa.; died in Chambersburg, Pa., August 2, 1848; interment in Falling Spring Presbyterian Cemetery.
