Info | Lisa Rea, a resident of Lincoln, is seeking the Democratic nomination to run for Congress in California's 4th Congressional District. Rea is passionate about advocating for values that unite citizens in the district while working to solve the tough problems it faces. She believes in standing up for ethics and accountability in government, protecting the safety and health of children, honoring our parents through policies that protect and enhance their lives, and being a good steward of our environment.
Rea has 25 years experience in public policy development and legislative advocacy for both public and private organizations and businesses. She has served as a staff person for three members of the California Legislature and has worked in government relations on a range of subjects, including healthcare, welfare reform, and water policy initiatives. Additionally, she has worked as a legislative advocate for the American Heart Association, focusing on policies that prevent heart disease and stroke, including tobacco control and prevention. "I am running for Congress because I have a passion for serving people, as I have done over the last 25 years in public life," Rea said. "The day-to-day needs of people in this district have been ignored long enough. Voters are looking for a leader with vision who is not afraid to stand up to the special interests who own Washington. I am that leader."
Currently, Rea, a nationally recognized expert on restorative justice, is president of The Justice & Reconciliation Project (JRP), www.thejrp.org, a national non-profit organization that she founded in 2001. JRP promotes an approach to criminal justice that seeks to restore victims of crime and communities while holding offenders accountable to victims. She previously worked as California director of Justice Fellowship, an affiliate of Prison Fellowship Ministries in Washington, DC.
Rea, 48, was born in Peoria, Illinois, and grew up in Reno, Nevada. She earned a B.A. in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Rea has been married for 16 years to Roger Trott, who was born and raised in Lincoln. Her father-in-law, Eldridge Trott, was publisher and editor of the Lincoln News-Messenger during the 1950s and 1960s. Rea has several relatives residing in the district, including her mother, Helen Rea, who has lived in Nevada City since 1980, numerous in-laws in Plumas County, and several nephews and nieces in Lincoln.
