Info | Phil Kellam has been in public service since he was first elected Virginia Beach's Commissioner of the Revenue in 1997. Since then, his primary focus has been on cutting costs through better management and operating efficiencies, while expanding services and advocating common-sense public policies to meet these objectives. Phil believes taxpayers expect government to treat them like good businesses treat customers - with respect and a focus on their needs.
Phil's tenacity and commitment to fixing government by focusing on results has not gone unnoticed by Virginia Beach voters, who rewarded him with two successful reelection bids in 2001 and 2005. Now, many of them are encouraging Phil to bring his common-sense approach to Washington as a public advocate while applying the same philosophy he uses in the commissioner's office - smaller, faster, better government.
Many believe that Congress needs more common-sense, bipartisan representatives who are committed to fixing government and have a record to prove it. Since voters demand performance, Phil is the right person to make certain that matters of security, efficiency, opportunity, accountability and personal responsibility - which are important to the citizens of Virginia's Second District - resonate loudly and clearly.
