Info | THOMAS P. SALMON was born August 19, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio. Governor Salmon graduated from Boston College in 1954. He received a J.D. degree from Boston College Law School in 1957 and an LL.M. from New York University of Law School in 1958. Governor Salmon served on the Rockingham, Vermont Town Counsel from 1959-72. He was a Municipal Court Judge in Bellows Falls from 1963-65. Governor Salmon was also a member of the State House of Representatives from 1965-70, where he was House Minority Leader from 1969-70. From 1974-75, Governor Salmon was the chairman of the New England Governors' Conference, and in 1974 he was a member of the National Governors' Conference Executive Committee. Governor Salmon has been a member of local, county and American bar associations, Elks, Moose, and Knights of Columbus. In 1976, Governor Salmon was a candidate for the U.S. Senator from Vermont. In 1991, Governor Salmon served as University of Vermont's interim President, but was confirmed as the permanent president in 1993. He served as the 23rd president of the university until 1998.
