Info | Lewis is a long-standing resident of Toronto Centre, where he lives with his wife Susan and their two boys.
Born in Ottawa in 1960, Lewis spent his early childhood in Australia and Egypt where his scientist father was posted with a growing family. In fact, Lewis learned to walk in the desert outside of Cairo. Moving back to Canada in time to start kindergarten, Lewis spent the rest of his childhood in Quebec’s Ottawa Valley, where he became fluently bilingual. Working with this mother, father and three brothers on a 200 acre beef farm in rural Quebec, Lewis learned the value of hard work and community spirit with summers of haybailing, ploughing and fence-mending and winters of woodcutting and caring for the farm animals.
To further his CEGEP college education, Lewis combined his love of mountains and mathematics by attending the Colorado School of Mines, where he graduated with honours with a BSc degree in geophysical engineering. A summer job with Exxon led to his first career posting in frontier oil exploration in Perth, Australia, where he worked for close to two years. Following his scientific roots, Lewis returned to the academic world to undertake post-graduate work in geology at Cambridge University in England. From Cambridge, Lewis embarked on a new career path in global finance, first in London with Citicorp Investment Bank and then in Paris with energy multinational Total SA. While based in Europe, Lewis’s work took him further afield to Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. He met his Canadian wife in Paris and their eldest son was born there.
Recognizing the benefits of raising his family closer to home, Lewis returned to Canada in the early nineties and he has been an active member of the Toronto Centre community ever since. Working in investment banking for Salomon Smith Barney and J.P. Morgan out of offices in Toronto and New York respectively, Lewis has been privileged to work closely with many builders of Canada’s economy, making him uniquely qualified to work within a Conservative government that is committed to opening up greater opportunities for all Canadians. With his recent nomination, Lewis is eager to put his extensive experience to work for Toronto Centre and bring open dealing back to our community. Lewis cares passionately about Toronto and will work tirelessly on your behalf to ensure Toronto has the tools and the infrastructure it needs to be a great and prosperous city.
