Info | ’m proud to be running for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Churchill. I have lived most of my life in this riding and care very much about this area. I hope to be able to help the Churchill riding develop economically viable communities, while ensuring that any development is sustainable. The challenges are overwhelming but I will do all I can to persevere.
I grew up in Thompson, my mother is a very capable piano teacher and my father is now retired after 30+ years at INCO. I have been very lucky to benefit from the many community programs and organizations that exist in this region. I represented Canada at the World Scout Jamboree in 1984 in Virginia. In 1990 I participated in an OWS student exchange to India; a trip which was to change many things in my life. I was involved in a couple of different martial arts organizations afterwards and still continue to train today. I went to the University of Winnipeg to pursue a degree in science. My summers were spent working for contractors for INCO and for Tolko. I have worked in most of the communities in the riding during that time.
After receiving my degree, I spent 4 years teaching in Japan. This was a wonderful experience for me as I was able to see my country from the outside while experiencing a whole new culture and way of life. During that time I became very involved in various martial arts and even worked my way into the professional ring. I also attained black belts or equivalent ranking in Judo, Kendo and Ju-jitsu. I also became involved in visual arts such as ink painting and photography during that time. The most wonderful of all those experiences was that I became involved and finally married a Japanese teacher working near the community I was living in.
I have also spent time in Cambodia, Thailand, Korea, India and Hong Kong. The experiences there further shaping my view of the world and my character.
I returned to Thompson after that time for a number of reasons. First, I missed the multicultural make-up of Canada and the wide variety of opinion, and belief that exists in a nation such as ours. I also missed the variety of opportunity that exists for us here. This does not exist in many other places and knowing that makes me even more proud to be Canadian.
In the past two years I have worked as a substitute teacher for the School District of Mystery Lake and recently I have been lucky to work in the refinery for INCO Manitoba Division.
I have been keeping myself busy as one of three coaches at Thompson Wrestling, as an alternate on the refinery Health and Safety Committee at INCO and pursuing my goals in photography and martial arts.
I believe it is time for a new vision for the north, one that isn’t concerned in left-right politics but what is good for the long term health and happiness of our communities. I believe that the Green Party has that vision for all people and communities of Canada. That is why I am proud to represent them in this up-coming election.
Please consider us when it is time to choose the next direction for our country.
