Info | Larry Gene Taylor was born in Carthage, Mo. on Aug. 7, 1953, to Dorothy Taylor and the late United States Congressman Gene Taylor. He attended Sarcoxie Public Schools and Missouri Southern University at Joplin, Mo.
He began his career in business by managing his family's car dealership, Gene Taylor Ford Sales and Service in Sarcoxie. He was also involved in his family's beef cattle farming operation.
After selling the Ford dealership, Taylor was appointed by State Treasurer Wendell Bailey to be his Director of Public Affairs. He also served in government relations as a legislative consultant for the Missouri Grocers Association and the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association.
Taylor was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002. During his two-year stint, he served as the Vice Chairman on the Tourism and Cultural Affairs and as a majority member of the House Committee on Appropriations for Transportation and Economic Development and the House Committee on Job Creation and Economic Development. He also served on the Republican Policy Development Committee.
In November of 2004, Taylor was elected to represent Ozark, Stone, Taney, Lawrence, Barry and McDonald counties as the State Senator of the 29th Senatorial District in Missouri's 93rd General Assembly. Currently he is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Development, Tourism and Local Government and serves on the following committees: Aging, Families, Mental and Public Health; Ways and Means; and Transportation.
His legislative priorities this session include ensuring that promises made regarding road improvement projects are kept and that funding is directed to correcting southwest Missouri's transportation problems, protecting democracy by requiring proof of U.S. citizenship before registering to vote, and coming up with a long-term funding solution to the shortfalls of the current education budget formula.
Taylor is a member of the Chambers of Commerce in Shell Knob, Cassville and Monett, Shell Knob Lions Club, Barry County Farm Bureau and First Baptist Church in Cassville, and he is a Past-President of the Barry County Republican Club and a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner.
Taylor and his wife, Gay, have a son, two daughters and two grandchildren. He currently resides in Shell Knob, Mo. and is an independent businessman in the automotive and marine business.
