InfoAccomplished local businessman René Berthiaume is the Liberal candidate for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.

Mr. Berthiaume is a third generation co-owner of Berthiaume Funeral Home Ltd., with locations in Hawkesbury and Vankleek Hill. A licensed funeral director since 1973, he has also worked as a paramedic for over 25 years and was co-owner of his family-owned ambulance service in Hawkesbury. In 1995, he was awarded the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal by the Governor General of Canada.

A long-time Liberal activist, Mr. Berthiaume has been President of the Federal Liberal Association of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell for the past ten years and served as its Treasurer from 1984 to 1994.

Mr. Bethiaume has been involved in his local community for the last thirty years. He is the past president of the Hawkesbury Chamber of Commerce, President Emeritus for the Ontario Ambulance Operators’ Association, Founding President of the Canadian Confederation of Ambulance Service Associations and a Board member of the Major Industrial Accidents Council of Canada. Mr. Berthiaume has also acted as the Eastern Regional Advisor for T.V. Ontario.

Born in Hawkesbury, Ontario Mr. Berthiaume is the eldest of 6 children. He and his wife Carole Larocque have two adult children, Annie and Jean-René, and one grandson, Zan.
