Info | An Erieau resident, born and raised in the area, I have played an active role in the community. As a member of the Rondeau Watershed Coalition, the C.A.R.E.(Community Action Regarding Environment) group, and the Green Party, I have played a pivotal role in raising environmental awareness within Chatham Kent.
Within the Rondeau Watershed Coalition, I am currently developing a water quality monitoring program for Rondeau Bay and it's watershed. Developing partnerships with the University of Guelph and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, testing began in December 2004.
In the C.A.R.E. group, I am playing an important role in developing an online environmental map of Chatham-Kent, which highlights tree cover, water flows, roads, conservation areas, soil types, recycling programs, historical sites and other sites of environmental interest. The map can be seen at "greenumbrella.info.ms"
I have been operating a community recycling depot in the Community of Erieau which inspires others to divert their recyclables from the landfill. I have also worked with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent in an effort to establish a curbside bluebox program in Erieau and Erie Beach.
I have been an active participant in public, anti-war rallies since 2001. As an organizer of the 2004 Chatham Peace Rally and a keynote speaker in the 2005, Windsor March for Peace, I have actively promoted an embargo of uranium to the United States, conditional upon an immediate end to the use of depleted uranium weapons.
For the past year, I have developed a program to replace the use of aquatic herbicides in Rondeau Bay with an environmentally friendly Aquatic Harvester. Working with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Rondeau Provincial Park, the Caldwell First Nations, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, MPP Pat Hoy and Bradley’s Aquatic Harvesting and with the help of local farmers around Rondeau Bay, I secured funding, educated local residents, established political will, acquired the necessary permits, hired the various contractors and organized the cutting and dumping operation. This also included, targeted press releases, a petition to the Ontario Legislature and a flier campaign. This, first year of this program, was well received by various property owner groups around the bay.
As the owner/operator of a small building business, I have the necessary work ethic, attention to detail and planning ability to get large and small projects completed on schedule and within budget. A former member of the Canadian Armed Forces, and in my younger years, as Warrent Officer of the Blenheim Air Cadets Squadron, I developed the sense of self discipline necessary to get things done.
I am an award-winning photographer and specialize in nature photography. Some of my photos can be seen in the 2004 Chatham Kent, “Exposed” photo book. Recreational activities include, sea kayaking, nature photography, camping, hiking, rock climbing, cave exploring and just enjoying nature. I am a vegan and use as few animal products as possible.
I believe that we can work together to create a more sustainable "Green Community."
