InfoMary Beth Harrell embodies the mainstream values and middle-class work ethic of central Texas. As the wife of a retired military officer and mother of two active-duty soldiers in the war on terrorism, she is running to restore the kind of accountability, integrity, and faith in the future the citizens of Central Texas demand – and deserve.

The grandchild of immigrants, Harrell was born in New York’s legendary Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood and raised in the hopeful era of John F. Kennedy, where she learned the powerful dfference one individual can make in the lives of many through public service.

After graduating from Caldwell College with a degree in history, Harrell married an Army officer and studied for a law degree while raising a military family on constant move from post to post. Settling at Ft. Hood nearly two decades ago, she earned a law degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

A successful attorney, Harrell specializes in criminal law with a get-tough record that characterizes her additional work on behalf of taxpayers as a city prosecutor in the Central Texas community of Nolanville and a recent stint as interim prosecutor in Temple.

With her husband, a reserve police officer and Vice-Chair of the Bell County Bail Bond Board, Harrell operates a non-profit animal rescue operation, St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, and recently opened a second, Assisi Animal Refuge, working in cooperation with the Killeen Chamber of Commerce on a wide range of humane education programs in the area.

Harrell attends St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Copperas Cove. She and her family are active in a variety of community initiatives throughout Central Texas, where their roots run deep and they believe the future still offers a wide horizon of hope.
