Info | To say Ernie Hunt, 58, has taken a low profile during the mayoral race would be an understatement. Hunt has attended none of the many candidate forums — saying he couldn’t possibly mince his platform down into a three-minute sound bite — and is accepting no campaign contributions. Yet he is still convinced he’ll win.
“You don’t really know who Ernie Hunt is,” he said. “I am actually a living legend down here.”
He counts 4,018 friends who have offered to give him money for his campaign, but said he has turned them all down on ethical grounds.
“If I go and waste all of my friends’ money plus my money on campaign signs and campaign ads, then what would I do with the city’s money?” he asked rhetorically.
If elected, Hunt said he would improve public safety and drainage, fix the streets and put in better lighting. He said he would help fund this by identifying “taxpayer waste.”
“I would like to research city hall and cut down on taxpayer waste,” he said. “I would just straighten it out and see where the money is going.”
