Info | Robert Bunda is the President of the Senate of the State of Hawai'i. The Democrat represents one of the largest legislative areas, the 22nd Senate District which encompasses Wahiawa, Waialua, Haleiwa, Sunset Beach and Mililani.
Bunda is an American of Filipino Ancestry. He was born in Waialua on the island of O'ahu. He was raised in Helemano and Wahiawa, historic pineapple plantation towns.
He attended Leilehua High School in the central plains of O'ahu. He graduated from Ludwigsburg American High School in Stuutgart, Germany. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan College in 1974 and attended the University of Dallas in 1975 for graduate studies.
Following in his father's footsteps, Bunda served in the United States Armed Forces. He was a member of the US Air Force and later in the Texas National Guard and Hawai'i National Guard.
After his service, Bunda became an independent businessman. From 1973 to 1979 he was a banking executive. He later became an insurance broker, a career he continues to practice today.
In 1983, Bunda won his first election to the Hawai'i State Legislature. He would serve in the House of Representatives until 1994. He has been in the state Senate since then.
