Across West Central Illinois, LauraKent Donahue is known for her exceptional record of experience and public service. In Adams County, Laura is a fixture in the service community, having served in elected office and community organizations for her entire adult life.
Laura graduated from Quincy Senior High and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Upon graduation, she opened a small business, teaching dance and choreographing community theatre and high school dramatic productions. Her success earned her an opportunity to work in Ireland at the Cork City Opera House and the Everyman Theatre. Upon returning to the States, Laura worked in the activities department at the Illinois Veterans Home.
Laura served Adams County most notably as our State Senator for 21 years. She worked tirelessly to provide outstanding constituent service and promote the development of the region. She served as the assistant majority leader from 1994-2002, and held committee assignments on the Appropriations, Energy & Environment, and Health & Human Services committees. She developed leadership skills and governmental relationships that benefit our region to this day.
Following her career in the State Senate, Laura continues to serve Western Illinois. She currently is a member of the Regional Council of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Transitions of Western Illinois Board of Directors (past chair), the Illini Hospital Board of Directors, Adams County Republican Women (president), the Quincy Society of Fine Arts (past president), PEO Chapter MK, and Noon Kiwanis.
Through her years of work and community service experience, Laurahas the administrative leadership skills required to continue serving Adams County as the Circuit Clerk. She understands the judicial process, administrative functions, and leadership skills necessary to provide excellent service to the people of Adams County. Laura is committed to holding the line on unnecessary expenses, and she will continue to find ways to develop and innovate in the pursuit of efficiency.
