Info | A native of Greenville, Mississippi and life long resident of Jackson, Mississippi, Marshand K. Crisler earned his Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Hinds Community College, a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Corrective Services from Jackson State University and a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Administration with a concentration on Community and Economic Development also from Jackson State University.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 4½ years and during which time, he served in the Persian Gulf War. He recently retired with the rank of Major and was the former commander of the 112th Military Police Battalion and served as the Deputy Director of Security Forces for the Mississippi Air National Guard's 172nd Security Forces Squadron Airlift Wing.
In 1999, he accepted the position as Chief of Police for the Utica Police Department and became the first African American to serve on this capacity.
He recently initiated a new pilot program, Excel to Achieve, which recognizes outstanding achievements of today's youth. He is involved in various organizations such as: the Sanderson Lodge's Masonic order, 100 Black Men of Jackson, and serves as Board of Directors for the National League of Cities Leadership Training Council.
He and his wife, Charlotte, have three children, Rashaad, Dominique, and Marshea Kenyanna.
