Democratic nomination
The Democratic state convention met in Reading on 6/4/1851. The delegates nominated Bigler for Governor unanimously (Harrisburg Key Stone, 6/17/1851).
Whig nomination
The Whig state convention met in Lancaster on 6/24-25/1851. The delegates nominated Johnston unanimously for a second term (Lancaster Examiner, 7/2/1851).
Native American nomination
The Native American state convention met in Harrisburg on 7/24/1851. The delegates divided; one group nominated Cleaver for governor and the other made no nomination (Sunbury Gazette, 8/2/1851).
