Description |
Special election to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of John T. Deweese on 2/28/1870 for being caught accepting a bribe.
Gilliam won the election but died before Congress assembled. Although Sion Rogers won the regular election on the same day as this special election, the Conservatives ran John Manning Jr. in the special election for the third session of Congress.
