Description | OAKLAND — After a three-month campaign, the race for the Grand Lake-Chinatown seat on the Oakland City Council has come down to the wire.
The eight candidates planned to spend the weekend urging voters to cast ballots in the all-mail election, which must be received by elections officials by Tuesday to be counted.
Several candidates said they are simply encouraging people to vote, no matter which candidate they pick out of the crowded field, and many said they are glad to come to the end of the campaign.
"The key is voter education," said Aimee Allison, the Green Party candidate.
Allison secured perhaps literally the most high-profile endorsement of the campaign when Alan Michaan, owner of the Grand Lake Theater, put her name up in lights on the marquee this week. |
