Description | Republican Elizabeth Dole's proposal to bar TV political advertising during the fall Senate election was rejected Wednesday, as Democrat Erskine Bowles prepared to open an advertising campaign with a commercial on trade issues this morning.
As she won the GOP nomination, Dole proposed that she and Bowles forgo political advertising and instead each put up $2 million for a series of televised prime time forums. Dole said the public was tired of negative attack ads and would prefer a polite discourse on the issues. |
