InfoFather of and banjo/guitar/dobro player for the Dillon Family Band.

On February 27, Sherman Lee Dillon and his wife Louise announced that he is a Green Party candidate for Governor. His reason for running is simple: as a small businessman, father, grandfather and husband, he is concerned about the future of his home state Mississippi.

Sherman Lee was born in Meadville, Mississippi in Franklin County between Natchez and McComb on November 11, 1951. After his formative years in Meadville, Sherman Lee has since spent the entirety of his adult life in Hinds County.

Sherman Lee attended the Meadville Public School System, Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, and Hinds County Community College in Raymond. Sherman Lee is a graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton with a degree in Psychology, class of 1971. He later received an early childhood Psychology certification from Jackson State University in 1974.

Sherman Lee has committed his life to bettering people's lives through music. He is limited in this field only by his imagination, playing banjo, dobro, guitar, piano, harmonica and is noted as a moving folk/blues singer. From 1979-1986 he was the owner/manager of a music store in Jackson. In 1984 Sherman Lee was in the line-up at the famed Delta Blues Festival in Greenville. He has opened for such notables as B.B. King and Lester Flatt. Sherman Lee has also been teaching beginning guitar and harmonica at Millsaps College for the school's enrichment program for the past nine years.

Sherman Lee also gives back to the community very generously by serving asthe choir director and pianist at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He has organized the very popular Earth Day Festival in Jackson since 1992, involving area schools and providing a way to educate the public regarding stewardship of our natural resources. He was awarded the Mississippi 2020 Sustainable Future Award in 2001.

Like many Mississippians, family is the most important thing in Sherman Lee's life. He and his wife the former Louise Gatti have been married for thirty years. They met while Sherman Lee was working for the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Sherman Lee's day job is attending to the needs of his two toddler grandchildren: Delaney Coates (2) and Quincy Thornhill (2) and his invalid mother.

Although he has never been elected to public office, Sherman Lee feels that it is every citizen's duty to take responsibility for events taking place around them. Because of this fact he decided to seek the Governorship. He hopes that by doing so he will set an example for his seven children Polly Elisabeth (29), Daniel Luke (27), Kathryn Louise (24), Anna Lee (21), Margaret Mary (18), Andrew John (16), and Jesse David (12). Sherman Lee's parents are Mrs. Evelyn Dillon and the late Mr. Clarence Dillon.
