InfoDavid Llewellyn is your full-time Labor representative in the electorate of Lyons . He currently holds the office of Deputy Premier and Leader of Government Business in the House of Assembly. In addition to these roles David is Minister for Health & Human Services and Minister for Police & Public Safety.

David has been the Minister Police and Public Safety since the current Government was elected in August 1998. Upon the re-election of the Labor Government in 2002 he took over responsibility for the Health and Human Services portfolio. On the 21 st of March 2004 David was appointed to the position of Deputy Premier in the Lennon Labor Government following the retirement of the late Premier, Jim Bacon.

Following a successful career in electronic engineering, David mounted a number of unsuccessful attempts to enter politics at a national level before winning the State seat of Wilmot (now Lyons ) in 1986.

During his 18 years as a member of the State Parliament and three terms as a Cabinet Minister, David has accumulated a vast knowledge of the issues and problems faced by people of Lyons , travelling well over one million kilometres throughout the electorate since 1986.

David has a wide and varied experience in government, including four years during the Bacon Government's first term (1998-2002) as Minister for Primary Industries, Water and Environment, which covered wide-ranging areas such as Primary Industries, Sea and Inland fisheries, Environment, Land Management and Planning, Water, and National Parks and wildlife.

David was Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries and Minister for Forests in the Field Labor Government (1989-92) and has served as a member of the Cabinet Budget Sub-Committee; Public Accounts and Subordinate Legislation Standing Committees; Dairy Industry and Central Highlands Select Committee; and chaired the Joint Select Committee of Inquiry into Gene Technology in Agriculture.

He has shown tenacity in his commitment to solving problems, no matter how small or how complex, for people and organisations throughout Tasmania over the years. The Tasmanian community has responded by repeatedly returning him with one of the highest personal votes in the State Parliament.

David is widely recognised for this honesty and integrity, perseverance and practical approach to problem solving. He is also a former Chairman of Anglicare Tasmania and former member of the Tasmanian and General Synod of the Anglican Church.

David was born at St Marys in Tasmania 's North East and is married with two sons. He has a strong interest in genealogy, electronics, and the occasional fishing expedition and game of golf and bowls.
