Info | Venkat R. ("Ven") Challa is a Winston-Salem, NC, resident who is a Professor of Pathology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1978 with his wife and two children.
Challa became active in the Republican Party in North Carolina in 1997, working in local political races.
He was a contender for the Republican nomination for US Senate in 2002. Challa ran on a platform of setting limits on tax rates, opening freedom of choice in health, and allowing teachers to open independent schools operated with public money. Challa placed last in the primary; Elizabeth Dole won the primary with 80% of the vote.
Challa later moved to High Point.
