Info | PFEIFER, Joseph Lawrence, a Representative from New York; born in Brooklyn, Kings County, N.Y., February 6, 1892; attended St. Nicholas Parochial School, St. Leonard’s Academy, and St. Francis College, Brooklyn, N.Y.; was graduated from Long Island (N.Y.) Medical College in 1914; was licensed to practice the same year; lecturer and author on surgical topics; during the First World War served on the medical advisory board, instructing medical officers going overseas; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and to the seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1935-January 3, 1951); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1950 to the Eighty-second Congress; resumed the practice of medicine; retired; resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he died April 19, 1974; interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y.
