Info | Burgess S. Gaither - a Whig politician in the mid- nineteenth century.
He was born in Rowan County on 3/16/1807.
Gaither was the final surviving member of the NC Constitutional Convention of 1835 (Wilmington Morning Star, 8/3/1886).
Gaither joined the Whig Party in the 1830s and was a delegate to the 1839 national convention in Harrisburg PA.
State Senate (W-Burke County NC) 1840-41, 1844-45; President Pro Tempore 1844-45. Appointed Superintendent of the US Mint in Charlotte by Pres. John Tyler in 1841 (Raleigh Register, 7/30/1841).
He died on 2/23/1892.
