Info | Matthew Mirones represents the 60th Assembly District of New York State, comprising Staten Island and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Mr. Mirones was elected to the State Assembly in a Special Election in February 2002. He is the Ranking Minority Member of the Mental Health Committee and also sits on the Education, Aging and Health Committees. Assemblyman Mirones was also appointed to the Legislative Task Force for people with Disabilities.
Assemblyman Mirones served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of ARIMED, Inc., a New York City-based prosthetic and orthotic company serving the metropolitan area. Under his direction, ARIMED has received national and international acclaim for its philanthropic initiatives in providing prostheses and care to those in need. In 2000, Assemblyman Mirones undertook his most ambitious humanitarian effort in bringing victims form war-torn Sierra Leone to the United States to receive prosthetic limbs and rehabilitative therapies.
Assemblyman Mirones has lectured extensively within the prosthetic profession, was an instructor at N.Y.U. Medical School�s Prosthetic program and has presented ongoing educational events within the medical community. Assemblyman Mirones is actively involved in various professional organizations and was the Past President of the National Pedorthic Association.
In serving his community, Assemblyman Mirones is a trustee of the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences, a member of the Staten Island and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, President of the Staten Island Chapter of the NYSHARA, a member of the Grasmere Home Owners Association, and a longtime member of the AHEPA.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Assemblyman Mirones is a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and holds a BS from N.Y.U Medical School in Prosthetics and Orthotics. He resides in the Grasmere section of Staten Island.
