| Info | In 1964 Dr. Tsai, (Pronounced Chai, like the Tea) or Rick as he prefers to be called, was born to an immigrant father Jufe and a native born mother Joyce.
He was born just north of San Francisco when his father was working overseeing a housing construction project on Travis Air Force Base.
His father who had immigrated from mainland China on a student visa had recently graduated from St. Mary’s college and studied for and gained his US citizenship. His father has always said that this was one of the greatest honors of his life.
Jufe left China just as Mao and the communist party was taking over. Jufe‘s senator father along with Jufe’s siblings were imprisoned. The family’s bank account was drained, and their home was taken. For decades, Jufe was prohibited by the communist regime from visiting his family in China.
He would never see his father again as he seemingly "mysteriously" disappeared.
Jufe constantly instilled into his son Rick how precious freedom was and how America was truly the land of opportunity.
Regardless of race or creed, if you worked hard enough in America, you could achieve anything you dreamed.
The family moved from California to Western Pennsylvania when Rick was 3 years old.
There he was raised in South Beaver Pennsylvania attending the Blackhawk School district just a few miles from the Ohio border.
At an early age, Rick became interested and obsessed with the martial arts and trained relentlessly garnering his black belt. He was honored to have been able to train hundreds of students in the western Pennsylvania region in the 1970s and 80s.
In 1984 representing Pennsylvania, he was second runner up in the Budweiser-Reebok United States Men’s Pageant held in Los Angeles, California.
He then became interested in weightlifting, and while attending college at the Allegheny Community College and the University of Pittsburgh, he also competed in bodybuilding.
Rick then suffered a major back injury and subsequently became introduced into chiropractic. It was this incident that was one of the turning points in his life. He had found his calling and enrolled into Palmer College of Chiropractic in Sunnyvale California.
Rick has been a practicing Doctor of Chiropractic for over 30 years.
Although his office is in Darlington, Pennsylvania, he has lived in East Palestine, Ohio since graduating from Chiropractic College.
“I think I’ve treated half of my hometown of East Palestine. I love Ohio, and I love it’s people.”
Rick, along with the residents of East Palestine Ohio were recently devastated by the Norfolk Southern train derailment in which hundreds of thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals were spilled into their town's soil and waterways and then subsequently burned into it's air.
Since the derailment, Rick has been instrumental in documenting East Palestine's contaminated waterways for the past 10 months as he would blanket himself in military PPE and enter the toxic waterways and reveal and film the contamination.
He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, dozens of news articles, and on national network news stations.
Disgusted with what Rick says is the EPA’s inept mismanagement of the crisis, President Biden’s total disregard of East Palestine’s suffering and Norfolk Southern’s mistreatment of many of the residents here, “it has opened my eyes to the insidious corruption of our government both on the national and local level.”
“On Wednesday, December 6, 2023 I came home after a long day of work. As I entered the kitchen, my wife Tammy stopped her cooking for a moment, and said “You need to run for Bill Johnson’s seat!” I thought for a moment and said, "You know what?... I will!"
They say the odds are stacked against me and that's just how I like it! It makes me work harder. If I were running to benefit myself then I probably would get tired, but this is not about me. I am fighting for the people and I am harnessing the power of good versus evil. When I sink my teeth into something I am relentless, and I will not let go.
Our constitution says that the representatives are supposed to listen to their constituent's concerns and problems and carry those voices to Washington and fight to make change. I believe politicians have forgotten this and they sell themselves to lobbyists, and go into politics for fame and fortune.
I’ve made a good living. I don’t need this.
For some wealthy people no amount of money is ever enough. They keep striving for more and more. I am a capitalist and I believe in making money but I’ve never been driven by it.
I know all of you have been let down by so many politicians that you are about to give up hope. I am just like you, I gave up hope too. And running for office myself was the only solution.
I am not a politician, and I won’t be bought. I believe I can win this election and I will fight relentlessly until Election Day to prove it.
Once I have my mind set on something, I do not tire.
Rick lives in East Palestine, Ohio with his wife Tammy.
They were not blessed with children, but they have their three fur babies, two Boxers and a Frenchie.
What little recreational time Rick does have is spent bass fishing in Ohio Lakes.
