InfoJosh Thomas was born and raised in a small Southern town where most folks, including Josh’s family, worked for the airlines. Like many Americans, they worked hard to pursue the American Dream, and thought they had it – until the terror attacks of September 11th. While the horrible devastation was almost a thousand miles away, the attacks impacted his town and family. The airlines suffered and many people lost jobs. Josh’s brother joined the Marine Corps. Josh’s life and sense of security was forever changed. That’s when Josh learned the value of community and the sense that we’re all in this together.

After graduating college on a ROTC scholarship, Josh joined the Marine Corps, training in Quantico here in Prince William County. In the Corps, Josh led Marines in tours in Afghanistan and the Middle East.

After five years on active duty, Josh transitioned to the reserves while he earned a law degree at the College of William and Mary. As an attorney, Josh has worked to improve communities, expand affordable housing, and help entrepreneurs and small businesses grow in Virginia.

During the pandemic, Josh continued to serve his community as part of Virginia’s Medical Reserve Corps, distributing food and vaccines. In addition to a successful legal career, Josh maintains a pro bono practice representing veterans before the VA and, recently, representing members of the LGBTQ+ community seeking asylum from Afghanistan.
