| Info | Starting in 2019, Kevin Andrés Garcia experienced a political and ideological awakening — one that led him to a deep appreciation for the United States of America and the Constitution upon which it is built. Through both his world travels and emphasis on US political discourse, he realized that the USA is the only country in world history whose foundational doctrine both enshrines individual Liberty and limits the powers of government. He now understands that the Federal Government has strayed from the systems laid out by the Founding Fathers over 250 years ago.
With no political experience, establishment connections or personal wealth to fund a run for office, Andrés determined he was the ideal candidate to represent the constituents of Maryland's 8th Congressional District honestly and transparently. He wants nothing to do with dictating the ways his fellow Americans live their lives — it's none of his business. He instead wants the country to return to its original constitutional principles, where the Federal government answers to the People and their Freedoms are protected against tyranny.
Andres is the first-born child of Colombian immigrants. His father from Bogotá and his mother from Barranquilla raised him to deeply value family, hard work, and Culture. Through shared experiences, he learned to never take blessings for granted and that success is never given. His parents — along with hermanos, tios, tias, and primos — made the arduous decision to uproot their lives in Colombia to make better futures in the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. His parents earned college degrees and work fulfilling careers — his father in Accounting & Finance, his mother in the US Navy. Such achievement would have been significantly more difficult had they stayed home. Their love for the US is palpable, and bestowed that appreciation in Andrés and his two younger siblings.
Prior to his Congressional run, Andrés spent several years in the software industry working with back-end developers and front-end user support. Much of that time was spent working for a Federal contractor, so he had ground-level exposure to the amount of waste in Federal agencies and general spending. Americans are better served having less of their tax dollars finance Federal failure. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor's in Economics. He and his partner, Sherry Wing, live in Silver Spring with their two dogs, Jake and Leela.
