Info | Timothy C. Idoni was first elected Mayor in 1991 and has been elected to two additional terms, the last in 1999 by a thirty nine percent margin of victory. Mayor Idoni is a life-long resident of the City of New Rochelle and a product of the public school system. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Iona College in 1977 and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from New York University in 1981. He has used his education, life experience and professional expertise in the field of city management to lead New Rochelle to the highest accolades in community redevelopment over the past ten and one half years.
Professionally, Mayor Idoni has served the public since 1980, serving as an assistant to the Village Administrator of Bronxville, as Director of Emergency Services and (at the age of 27) Deputy City Manager of New Rochelle, and as Village Manager of Ardsley, New York for five years. While working in Ardsley in 1989, he was awarded the International City Management Associations highest award in Des Moines, Iowa, one of only ten internationally, for his work in modernizing that Villages operations and programs.
In 1990, the Mayor returned to his hometown to take over the operation of the New Rochelle Neighborhood Revitalization Corporation as its Executive Vice-President. The agency, a local not-for- profit, specializes in affordable housing construction and rehabilitation. The agency had fallen on hard times and in twenty short months, he had it back on its feet and producing such wonderful projects as MacLeay Apartments renovation and conversion, the Lincoln Townhouses and the rehabilitation of 400 North Avenue.
Since his assuming the position of Mayor, the City of New Rochelle has taken incredible steps forward in all areas, but especially in finance and economic development. The citys reputation in economic development has skyrocketed with the completion of New Roc City, Home Depot. Costco, the Palmer Center, Home Expo Design, Linens and Things, the Library Green and Avalon-on-the Sound, the approval of plans for the West End 2000 housing initiative and the downtown Intermodal Transportation Center, now under construction. The citys financial condition, in dire straits when Tim took office has now stabilized and property taxes have risen less than the rate of inflation for nine straight years. The citys government is now open, through the televising of City Council meetings and the Mayors frequent and regular meetings with community groups.
Mayor Idoni currently serves on a number of boards including the Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester, The Westchester Community Opportunity Program, and the Foundation for Educational Excellence and the Westchester Municipal Officials Association, which he served as President of in 1999. He has been honored by numerous local and countywide organizations for his leadership and philanthropic work and was named one of Westchesters Top Ten Newsmakers in 1999 by the Westchester Business Journal.
Mayor Tim Idonis ability to successfully merge policymaking, social management techniques and innovative ideas has the Countrys development community recognizing New Rochelles incredible success and its great potential for the future.
