Info | John Donald Medinger is a La Crosse native, graduating from Aquinas High School in 1966 and from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1970 where he earned a Bachelors of Science Degree with a double major in Political Science and History. Mayor Medinger then continued to earn a Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree-with a History emphasis in 1972. After his schooling, Mayor Medinger entered into the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program. After the VISTA program, John Medinger returned to La Crosse to help out with his family's business.
In 1976, John Medinger won the first of eight terms to the Wisconsin State Assembly. From 1993 to 1996, John Medinger worked for US Senator Russ Feingold as his Western Wisconsin Regional Coordinator. In December of 1996, John Medinger announced his candidacy for Mayor of La Crosse. His campaign was a success and he has been the Mayor of La Crosse since.
In addition to two stepsons, John Medinger and his wife, Dee, have two children.
