Info | LOCKE, Francis, (nephew of Matthew Locke), a Senator from North Carolina; born in Rowan County, N.C., October 31, 1776; attended Zion-Parnassus Academy and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; studied law; admitted to the bar and practiced; elected judge of the superior court of North Carolina in 1803 and served until 1814, when he resigned.
Elected to the United States Senate in 1814 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of David Stone, but resigned December 5, 1815, without having qualified.
Died in Rowan County, N.C., on January 8, 1823; interment in the Thyatira Churchyard, near Salisbury, N.C.
