InfoWalter Pawelkiewicz is the State Representative from the communities of the 49th District which represents the Town of Windham which consists of Willimantic, Windham Center, North Windham and South Windham. Elected to his second term, Pawelkiewicz was appointed to Vice-Chair of the Commerce Committee and serves as a member on the Banks, Transportation, and Human Services Committees.

Walter served as the First Selectman of the Town of Windham since 1991 leaving only to serve as the State Representative. He previously served on the Windham Board of Selectmen from 1989-1991. He resides in Windham Center with his wife Jane. He was an associate professor in residence in the Bureau of Educational Research and Services in the Department of Educational Psychology at UConn. His last two years in residence he evaluated children's mental health and AIDS programs. From 1977-1989, Walter held several managerial positions with the Department of Children and Youth Services. From 1975-1977, he served as a research analyst with the Connecticut Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission. He received his bachelor of science degree in Psychology from Loyola University in Chicago. He received his M.A., from UConn, in Child Development and Family Relations in 1975 and a Ph.D. in Child and Educational Psychology in 1980.
