| Info | Mike Clelland is running for office for one very simple reason - he thinks we deserve a representative who will find common-sense solutions that work for real people. And, he's ready to take on the powerful political elites in Tallahassee and stand up for hard working families who deserve a safe place to raise their children, a good job, good schools, and a government that works for them for a change.
As the middle child of three, Mike Clelland grew up with modest means. His father passed away when he was young, leaving his mother to raise the children. Mike's family moved to Central Florida 1974 where he attended Forest City Elementary School, Teague Middle School, and graduated from Lake Brantley High School.
Mike learned the value of hard work and determination from his mother, Helena. She worked two jobs to provide for Mike and his siblings. During high school, Mike helped his family make ends meet by delivering pizzas at night, and installed residential and commercial sprinkler systems in the summertime.
Sadly, at the age of 23, Mike's younger sister, Pam passed away after a long battle with cancer. This left a huge void in the family's life. Nevertheless, they pressed on. After graduating high school, Mike followed in his brother Steve's footsteps and entered the fire service. He was hired by the Longwood Fire Department in 1983. In 1987 he was promoted to Lieutenant, and in 2002 he was promoted into management as a Battalion Chief.
During his career as a firefighter, Mike attended night school. He earned an Associate's Degree in Fire Science Technology at SCC and then a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at UCF. After years of attending night school while working fulltime as a firefighter, Mike eventually earned a law degree from Florida A&M University College of Law.
After 26 years of service, Mike retired from the fire department in 2008 and started his own law firm. He now specializes in providing legal services to first responders throughout central Florida by helping them and their families obtain benefits they have earned and to get needed care for those injured in the line of duty.
Mike Clelland and his wife Christy have been married for 8 years. They have a home in Lake Mary where they raise their two beautiful children. A product of the public schools in Central Florida, Clelland knows first-hand the importance of a good education, strong family values, determination, and hard work. Clelland is passionate about public service and helping ensure a quality of life we want here in Central Florida. As our Representative, Mike Clelland will use his life experience to make sure we have a strong and effective voice in Tallahassee.
