InfoState Sen., Ex-Marietta School Board Chair & Physician

Born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, Phil Gingrey knew the value of education at an early age. After graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, he moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech. Phil co-oped his way through college, and completed his undergraduate studies in Chemistry. With a Bachelors of Science degree from Georgia Tech, Phil returned home to Augusta to attend The Medical College of Georgia.

Upon graduation from medical school, Phil served his internship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, and his residency at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed a rotation during this time at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, as well.

Upon completion of his medical training, Dr. Gingrey moved his young family to Marietta where he set up a pro-life OB-GYN practice. For the past twenty-six years, Phil has built a very successful practice, and delivered over 5200 babies.

Dr. Gingrey has worked hard for the betterment of his community. He served on the Marietta City School Board, where he was elected Chairman three times. After completing the role of School Board Chairman, Phil decided to run for State Senate. Senator Gingrey is currently in his fourth year in the Georgia State Senate, where he was re-elected to his second term with 74% of the vote.

As a State Senator, Phil has tirelessly fought for core conservative principles and traditional family values. Under the Gold Dome, Dr. Gingrey successfully moved legislation to protect the unborn child, battled for the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms, worked to lower taxes, and labored to strengthen teen driving laws to save the lives of Georgias teens. Phil has been endorsed by Georgia Right to Life, has been given a grade of A by the National Rifle Association, and was rated 100% on the Georgia Chamber of Commerce scorecard.

Phil's wife, Billie, grew up in Newnan, and graduated from LaGrange College. Phil and Billie have been married for 32 years. They have been blessed with four children, Billy, Gannon, Phyllis, and Laura Neill, and three grandchildren. They attend St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta.
