Info | Raymond LeRoy Haight
Educated at USC
He was an associate at a small Los Angeles law firm, Newlin & Ashburn before co-founding Haight & Mathes, a Los Angeles law firm that was predecessor to today's Sheppard Mullin. In 1932, Ray Haight left the Firm to form the new firm of Haight & Trippet. He later ran unsuccessfully for governor as a third party candidate against Republican Frank Merriam and Democrat-novelist Upton Sinclair. He garnered 300,000 votes, or 13% of those cast.
Haight was a thirty-seven year old attorney who had long fought for clean government, and entered the race so as to give the voters a chance to vote for a middle-of-the-road candidate.
