Info | Steve Raby is a small business owner that has served the Tennessee Valley for over twenty-five years. As a Legislative Aide and Chief of Staff for U. S. Senator Howell Heflin from 1984 until 1997, Steve has worked closely with North Alabama issues tied to the success of Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone Arsenal. During his time with Mr. Heflin, he worked closely with the defense and aerospace industry of North Alabama that has always been integral to local job growth and the economic success of our region.
Returning to Alabama in 1997, Steve joined Huntsville-based Direct Communications, but continued his public service for four years as the Chairman of the Governor’s Task Force on Military Affairs. In his new capacity, Raby recognized the economic development potential a strong military presence can have in our community and helped to develop a strategic plan for the state to grow military presence and increase contracting potential within Alabama.
Steve is currently the President of Direct Communications, which specializes in public relations, management of local issues, and counseling. During his time with the firm, he has helped to promote economic development by serving many of North Alabama’s leading companies, organizations, associations and local leaders.
For the past thirteen years, Steve has worked closely with research universities, defense contracting companies, and the space industry. Since returning to Alabama, he has been active with community service, with the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the Tennessee Valley Corridor, the Association of the United States Army, and the Veterans Memorial Foundation.
In Congress, Steve will continue working to support the values and priorities of hardworking families of the Tennessee Valley. This means fighting for fiscal responsibility and common sense legislation in Washington, while working to grow quality jobs here at home.
A native of the Tennessee Valley, Steve attended public schools and graduated from Auburn University with a BS and a Masters of Science in Economics. Steve and his wife, Denise, live in Huntsville. They have two sons, Nathan and Keenan.
